Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe 2025

Discover the innovations of maritime electrification

The Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo 2025 is a prominent event focused on maritime electrification, decarbonization, and greenhouse gas reduction solutions. The exhibition will highlight new electric and hybrid marine transportation and propulsion technologies, along with shore charging equipment and emerging efficient technologies designed to support the transition to zero-emission shipping and net-zero goals.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo Europe Conference will take place, offering a platform for discussions on the electrification and hybridization of marine vessels, as well as the infrastructure needed for ports, charging, fueling, and energy supply.

Welcome to the future of maritime excellence!

Range of blocking diodes for shore powered vessels

In marine operations, particularly during the onshore charging process, several challenges arise. For example, at shore-based charging stations, power is delivered to the vessel via a pantograph that establishes an electrical connection. Once onboard, this power is distributed to the vessel’s switchboards. In this setup, our blocking diodes are crucial in preventing short circuit currents from flowing back from the ship’s electrical system to the shore power supply.

When charging begins, the advanced continuous diode monitoring board developed by us at Astrol Electronics continuously checks the diode’s blocking functionality. If the diode fails to block as expected, the system will notify the customer, enabling them to initiate a stop-charge command and disconnect, ensuring the safety of the entire charging system.

Diode assembly for cathodic protection

A diode assembly for cathodic protection is an essential component in the corrosion protection systems of vessels, oil rigs, pipelines, and other submerged metal structures. A diode is an electronic device that allows current to flow in one direction only. In this application, it helps manage the flow of electrical current to protect the structure from corrosion. Cathodic protection is an electrochemical method where the metal surface is made the cathode of an electrochemical cell to prevent corrosion.

In systems using both sacrificial anodes and impressed current, or when multiple structures are connected, diodes play a critical role in preventing the protective current from flowing back into the power source or into areas where it isn’t needed. This helps to avoid damage and inefficiencies within the protection system.

The diode assembly also isolates different sections of a structure or various cathodic protection systems, ensuring each part receives optimal protection without interference from other areas. By controlling the electrical current, the diode assembly helps maintain the effectiveness of the cathodic protection system, thus prolonging the lifespan of the vessel or structure it protects.

In maritime environments, where vessels are exposed to the highly corrosive effects of seawater, these assemblies are crucial. They are typically installed at key locations on the hull or other submerged parts of the vessel to ensure an even distribution of the protective current. Additionally, they are used in cases where different materials or sections of the vessel require tailored levels of protection, offering a customized approach to corrosion control.

Platform B solid-state DC breaker

This is the ‘Platform B’ of our solid-state DC breaker system. Each Platform B module has a capacity of 3 MW. It features a modular design tailored specifically for marine and naval applications. It supports up to 6 kA and is rated at 1.5 kV.

Our solid-state DC breaker, Platform B, is designed for marine and naval use, with a modular design that offers front access and a 19-inch configuration for straightforward maintenance and customization. It can manage nominal currents up to 6 kA and includes readiness for spinning reserve mode, ensuring compliance with DP3 standards as per DNV-RP-0591.

Our approach focuses on customer needs, offering customizable designs such as horizontal layouts and compliance with military standards for ruggedized and shock-proof performance.
